OFSTED

Ashridge Nursery is very proud to have received another good OFSTED report following our last inspection in November, 2007.

OFSTED is the Office for Standards in Education, a government department that carries out inspections of childcare facilities every 1-4 years to ensure that the staff and premises provide a suitable standard of care for children. Inspectors check against 14 National Care Standards.

Our staff have continued to provide high quality care since the last inspection in October 2004, and have received a very positive report praising their contribution.

OFSTED's judgement for each of the key areas was GOOD and that the overall rating for the inspection was also GOOD. This means that we are consistently delivering above the minimum requirements set by OFSTED.

We would like to highlight some of the comments made within each area of the report regarding our effectiveness.

Helping children to be healthy

"Children benefit from very good opportunities to spend time outside in the fresh air………participate in a variety of activities that enable them to be active and maintain a healthy body………enjoy healthy snacks."

Protecting children from harm or neglect and helping them stay safe

"Staff give a high priority to safety….….closely supervise children at all times. Safety checks are undertaken daily to minimise areas of potential risk. Children learn how to keep themselves safe and avoid accidental injury."

Helping children achieve well and enjoy what they do

"Staff are warm, friendly and caring and show a good interest in all the children do …….make children's learning fun……..listen to children and respond to their interests and ideas which extends their learning. The quality of teaching and children's learning is good. Staff organise the provision well and provide a good range of activities linked to the Foundation Stage curriculum to ensure children make good progress in their social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. Children benefit from positive adult interaction."

Helping children make a positive contribution

"Staff are very positive about children and use lots of meaningful praise……have a calm, gentle manner with children……are welcoming with friendly smiles and value everyone as individuals and offer good support of children. Children's spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is fostered. Children benefit because parents and carers play an active role within the preschool."

Organisation

"Staff are experienced and qualification levels are well met…….are committed to updating their knowledge and skills through ongoing training. Comprehensive policies and procedures underpin good practice and contribute to the health, safety and welfare of children."

We are very proud of our staff for achieving this high standard of inspection. Please also be proud of your children of whom the report says "The children are confident and feel self-assured…….settle well and are happy and at ease within the nursery…..are interested learners who actively engage in their chosen activities."
